Blends of Polycarbonate (PC) and Polyesters (PBT - PET)
If you want to combine impact, chemical and heat resistance with high flow for your engineering thermoplastics, check out here all the possibilities Makroblend® can offer you!
Polycarbonate - Polyester blends, based on Polybutylene Terephtalate (PBT) or Polyethylene Terephtalate (PET), actually combine the benefits of Polycarbonate (PC) with Polyesters. Indeed, they exhibit a unique set of performances:
PC with PBT for higher flow, superior chemical resistance and toughness! PC with PET for higher heat resistance and higher dimensional stability!
Polycarbonates Polyesters Click on the above links to find out more about polycarbonates with the flow and chemical resistance of polyesters
Moreover, performance profile can be easily matched by adjusting the Polycarbonate-Polyester ratio (and viscosities) and/or by adding specific additives such as fillers and UV stabilizers. PC-PET blends are prefered when higher chemical resitance and dimensional stability are required.

Powertools
The powertool industry seeks lightweight materials that are tough, chemical resistant and reliable in continuous service. Design flexibility is very important; therefore, the materials used must exhibit good processability to allow injection molding of complex parts with good appearance. Many powertool applications also require materials that are compatible with a variety of soft touch resins for overmolding processes for ergonomic grips and vibration dampening.
Powertools - PC/PBT & PC/PET blends Makroblend® is a material of choice for powertool housings used under severe conditions If your Powertool application requires compatibility with soft touch resins, Find out here how Makroblend® ca help you!
Benefits of Makroblend® for Powertool housings
Chemical resistance Good, particularly to fuels, lubricants, solvents and cleaning agents
Rigidity High, tensile modulus: 1,700MPa (250,000psi) to 4,200MPa (610,000psi), depending on grade
Impact and break resistance High impact strength (notched and unnotched); high toughness, even at low temperatures
Heat resistance PC/PET typically has higher heat resistance than PC/PBT (dependant on grade)
High flow Very well suited for injection molding of complex parts and thin wall parts Are you trying to enhance one of those in your application? Find out how Makroblend® can help you here!
The following Makroblend® grades are suitable for a variety of Powertool housing applications (specific grade is dependant on application requirements):
Makroblend KU2 7915 (general purpose PC/PBT grade) Makroblend UT 400 / UT 403 (general purpose PC/PET grade) Makroblend UT 1018 (general purpose PC/PET grade) Makroblend UT 620G (10% glass reinforced) Makroblend DP WT203 (weatherable PC/PET grade)
